The Chronicles of Korea

Jennifer and Heather are crazy, fun-loving, nomadic girls with a desire to travel the world. We are both at a point in our lives where we can easily make a change and try something new. This blog will be a journal of our lives in Asia as English teachers in South Korea.

The Korean government is bribing office employees not to use the services of prostitutes this holiday weekend. They believe giving men movie tickets for the New Year's eve will provide them with a fun and acceptable alternative. go to this website http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapcf/12/25/korea.prostitutes.reut/index.html?eref=rss_topstories

Christmas in Korea!
What's Christmas without Sea Monkeys? Jennifer and I went to a couple of Christmas parties over the holiday weekend...including a white elephant party. Jen won Sea Monkeys, Jennifer won the Idiot's guide to Starting a Bed and Breakfast, and I won a Blue Velvet dvd. I think we made out pretty good. Even thought we were so far away from home it still felt like Christmas spending it here with a Christmas tree, friends, excellent food, soju, and drunk santas. Jennifer and I made latkas (potato pancakes) in honor of the last night of Hanukkah and we also had roasted chicken, salad and an array of other foods our friends so heart fully prepared for the occasion.

My birthday celebrations were spectacular! I had the greatest time hanging with my friends! Heather and I started the day off by going to a traditional Korean Spa. Then at night we started out a Korean BBQ...eating pork on the first night of Hannukkah...Whoops..bad jew! Then we went to a little bar called Ol 55 where we met up with the rest of the crew and drank a little....Then we went to the Noribong (Singing room) where everyone sang their asses off and got crazy!!! After the singing room we went to listen to Techno at Vinyl Underground!!! It was a very long, but fun night. I am soooo lucky to have met a really awesome group of people here in Korea.

Mispronunciation
I was teaching a lesson on future tense using space travel the other day and a funny thing happened. My kids were supposed to say "the astronaut is going to Venus" and they kept saying "the astronaut is going to penis" I was the only one who found it amusing so I guess the kids didn't realize what they were saying.

ALL MY SEOUL
Here are a few pics from our fabulous trip to Seoul! Let me say... that we were styling in Seoul at the W in Walker Hill! It was a very expensive section of Seoul up on a hill overlooking the entire city! The spa truly left a lasting impression on our Seouls! We experienced true bliss as we were lounging in a jacuzzi on the deck outside, overlooking the city, NAKED! We had to be naked and it was girls only... because it was a sauna, steamroom, showers, and several different temperature spas. This is how they do it Korea! It was very relaxing and surreal to be there... I kinda wish I had some pics.... but that would be too revealing! You'll have to just trust me or experience the WOW moment for yourself!
